Thanks, Mom…

9 May

When I was 5 I had to have surgery.  For a few months prior I had been battling bladder infections and fevers that rose as high as 104.  In March, shortly after my 5th birthday, I packed my red Snoopy suitcase with all the essentials and was off to the Children’s Hospital in Dallas.  I was in the hospital for what seemed like 2 weeks, but was probably only 3 days.  I was scared out of my mind when they rolled me into surgery.  I think I screamed the whole way.  I was still crying when they gave me a strawberry scented anesthesia and the next thing I knew I was in recovery.  I was in and out of a state of sleepiness and I distinctly remember a dream about Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street.  But the most important thing I remember is that my mom stayed in the hospital with me.  She brought a reclining lawn chair, a blanket and a pillow and she slept on that ridiculousness for the duration of my stay there.  At the time I guess I thought it was normal.  Now I know that it wasn’t so much.  I am so thankful that she sacrificed like that for me.  As a grown up, I appreciate it so much.  Thanks, Mom!!!!
